The United Workers’ Central (CUT) called the proposal for a minimum wage presented by the Government today – through the Minister of Finance, Rodrigo Cerda – to the Committee on Labour of the House of Deputys and Deputies ” to be “disgraceful”.
The Executive insisted on the original idea of a 3.2% readjustment that will reach a gross salary of 337,000 pesos per month. However, the amount of Minimum Guaranteed Income (IMG) increases from the current 40 thousand to 50 thousand pesos.
As for family allowances, they are set at $13,832 for each family member.
In this way, according to the Government, a person who currently receives $326,500 gross per month, with this proposal would reach 337 thousand pesos. With the planned discounts the monthly liquid amount would reach $264,545.
However, the Executive postulates that with the state subsidy delivered through the Minimum Guaranteed Income of $50,000, a worker could receive a monthly liquid amount of $335,681.
The Finance Minister exemplified his proposal with a family of 4, ensuring that with the minimum wage, plus the IMG subsidy and the sum for paying the family burdens would be reached a monthly liquid income of $377,175.
The committee agreed to quot a session for this Wednesday, 26 May, at 11 a.m., in order to vote on the initiative.

“As a disgraceful we catalogue the Executive’s proposal for the adjustment of the minimum wage,” said CUT President Barbara Figueroa
It is not possible that we are once again Chileans through the state subsidy, with a guaranteed minimum income that we have to go to contain so that companies can advance a living wage. That’s no longer presentable in this country,” he added.

“It is not sustainable today that it is the entrepreneurs who need to be protected the most,” Figueroa continued.
“Today what is required is minimum wage above the poverty line, a basic emergency income of 500 thousand pesos is required to cough up the universe of informal and independent workers and the price of food is required,” said cut president.
