Beck David Campbell, better known as Beck, was born on July 8, 1970 and today is turning 50 years old, the musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer who came to the media with an experimental sound in the 90’s.
In 1994 he released his first single “Loser” which immortalized him and made him known. The song appeared on MTV’s top 40 and was ranked number 203 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ranking At age 16, Beck dropped out of school and his studies to devote himself entirely to music. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the singer said that he wished he had finished his studies, but the precarious living conditions of that time led him to seek independence. Beck publicly acknowledged his affiliation with Scientology for the first time in an interview published in The New York Times magazine in 2005. “Yes, I am a Scientologist. My father has been a Scientologist for about 35 years, so I grew up in and around it.” Then in 2019, he declared that he no longer belonged to the controversial religion. Beck also appeared in Southlander (2001), an American independent film by Steve Harris and Ross Hanft.The musician lent his voice playing himself in Matt Groening’s series Futurama in the episode “Bendin’ in the Wind”.
