A week after the seizure of facilities of the University of the Americas (UDLAP) in Cholula, Puebla, the parties that dispute its leadership again launched accusations.
On Tuesday afternoon, the legal team of the so-called “new board of trustees” of the University denounced the current rector Luis Ernesto Derbez Bautista, for alleged money laundering and organized crime.
In a press conference, the members of this leadership said that there is a embezzlement of 720 million dollars from the foundation for the benefit of the Jenkins family, but that they will seek the academic continuity and activities of udlap employees.
“We want to convey a message of tranquility, both for the student community, teacher faculty, administrative and operational staff because it will not see layoffs, we seek that continuity of academic activity, that there are no impacts in any of these sectors,” said Adalberto Ramos, lawyer of the “new board of trustees.”

In addition, this leadership also filed another complaint for fraudulent administration against Monica Ruiz Huerta, Mario Vallejo Perez, Virgilio Rincon Salas, Alejandro Gonzalez Munoz, Carlos Roman Hernandez, Jesus Salvador Mijangos, Elodia Sofia de Landa, Roberto Jenkins de Landa, Juan Guillermo Jenkins, Margarita Jenkins de Landa, Juan Carlos Jenkins de Landa and Maria Elodia Jenkins de Landa.
Campaign of lies: rector of the UDLAP
In response to the allegations, the current rector of the institution, Luis Ernesto Derbez Bautista, said that it is a “campaign of lies” against him and executives.
“There is a campaign of lies, a campaign of lies that a group of people pose and present as if they were true, they talk about allegations, they talk about frauds, they talk about the use of pyramid structures to be able to have money, earn and earn a lot of money by stealing it from the University of the Americas Puebla through a scheme,” he said.
He said that the university’s accounts have been transparent, and insisted that there is confusion about the university’s assets, as he said that these are two different structures and “there is no legal reason that therefore allows the university to intervene.”

The rector maintained that the members of the so-called “new board of trustees” have violated two suspensions that prevented the removal of the previous ones as well as intervening in the udlap’s accounts.
Judicial authorities in Mexico City and the state of Puebla ordered, on June 28, that the University of the Americas Foundation of Puebla be restored to the legal and material possession of the UDLAP facilities, which until now had been under the control of the Mary Street Jenkins Foundation.
It was also ordered that a legal, physical and accounting audit of the University’s administration be initiated immediately.
The intervention comes after a state Control Judge issued arrest warrants against several members of the Jenkins family and their attorneys on June 4.
This was in addition to the arrest warrants already in place against them, since February of this year, for embezzlement of more than 700 million dollars from the Jenkins Foundation.
