translated from Spanish: Health fails to report on COVID traffic light; states announce their color

This Friday it was expected that the Ministry of Health will present the COVID Risk Semaphore that will apply from July 19 to August 2, but it did not present it or give any explanation about this lack of information, just when the country has been five days with more than 12 thousand cases of COVID reported daily and entities where active cases have more than doubled.

It was the state governments, though not all of them, that reported the changes. The governor of the State of Mexico was among the first to spread a message on social networks to announce that the entity was moving to yellow light. While Mexico City – although it has doubled its number of active cases in the last two weeks – remains in that same color, this probably because hospital occupancy in general beds remains at just over 50% (53.92%).

Guerrero Governor Hector Astudillo was unclear in the information about the color of the traffic light last Friday. In a conference, in response to a specific question from a reporter, he asked the health secretary to report on hospital occupancy, which, according to them, does not exceed 50 percent, and then he said: “I think with the data you could answer your question.”
The entity, which remains in green, almost sixfold its number of active COVID cases in the last 2 weeks. While in Acapulco the average hospital occupancy is 47.8%.
Local media such as Radio Fórmula Sinaloa published statements by the governor of the state, Quirino Ordaz, in which he confirms that next Monday the state will go to red epidemiological traffic light, but there will be no closure in any sector, both beaches, hotels, department stores and public spaces, because it can not affect the economy of sinaloans.

According to information from the IRAG Network, where hospitals report their occupancy level, the entity has a hospital saturation in general beds of 57.28% and 46.93 in ventilator beds.
The Governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat, reported in a video disseminated on social networks that in recent weeks there was an increase in cases in the state, so he will ask for a change in the color of the traffic light.
“I have taken the decision to ask the Federal Health Council that the State of Oaxaca return to yellow light, this in the face of the increase in Covid-19 infections in various regions, as is the case of the Isthmus and the Coast, this with the sole objective of saving the lives of Oaxacans and Oaxacans, to protect our families,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health of Michoacan reported through its twitter account that due to the increase in positive cases of COVID-19 in the state, Michoacan will pass this Monday to yellow light for the high risk of contagion.
“We call on the population to respect sanitary measures and avoid attending parties or crowded places. Bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients is on the rise in our hospitals. The one that reports the highest demand is that of Pátzcuaro, with 50%, followed by the Children’s Hospital of Morelia, with 33.33%, and the Integral Hospital of Los Reyes, with 25%”, says the message.
Meanwhile, the Health Secretariat of the state of Hidalgo reported that the entity also switches to yellow traffic lights. In the last two weeks the epidemic has accelerated here. On June 30, there were 200 active cases and in 15 days it more than tripled to 700. In addition there is an increase of 8% in hospital occupancy, the number of patients has doubled. But in deaths there is no increase.
