José Nicanor Araiza Dávila, who was searching for his missing son in Zacatecas, was found dead after being deprived of his liberty.
The 51-year-old activist was taken from his home by armed men on 22 July in the municipality of Villa de Cos, and since then his family has not known of his whereabouts.

José Nicanor was looking for his son Nicanor Araiza Hernández, who disappeared on September 30, 2018 when he was 27 years old, also in Villa de Cos.
After the disappearance of his son, José Nicanor participated with several groups of relatives who are looking for their missing relatives.
The activist’s body was found on July 27 on a dirt road that leads from the town of El Durazno to El Ranchito, in the municipality of Concepción del Oro, in the north of the state.

The Citizen Council of the State Search Mechanism of Zacatecas, which had publicly denounced his disappearance, confirmed his death.
The murder of José Nicanor, who had been searching for his son for nearly three years, occurred just days after the murder in Sonora of Aranza Ramos.
Aranza Ramos, a member of the collective Madres Buscadoras de Sonora, was murdered on the night of Thursday, July 15, in the community of Ortiz, in Guaymas.
She joined the collective to search for her husband Brayan Omar Celaya Alvarado, who disappeared on December 6, 2020.
