Deputy Marcos Ilabaca (PS) criticized the study carried out by the AFP Association, which states that if the fourth retreat is carried out “inequality would deepen,” especially between women and young people.
In this regard, the president of the Constitution Commission of the Lower House, where it will be debated from August 11, said that the study “only proves one thing, that the AFP have not given the width and have not been the social security system that Chile deserves today.”
“We are very convinced of the need to be able to discuss within the Chamber of Deputies and the Congress as a whole, the pension system that Chile has today,” stressing that he thinks that “this is the fundamental issue.”
However, Ilabaca warns that today the citizens have specific economic problems. “That is why it is so necessary to proceed to the discussion of the projects related to the fourth withdrawal of 10%, because today Chilean families have an absolute and urgent need, of an economic nature,” he said.
Along these lines, he stressed that “a high percentage of Chileans have realized that afPs are only big business for some. But in no case are they a system to provide decent pensions for citizens.”
