Guanajuato authorities arrested Benito N and Miguel Angel N, alleged killers of Alma Rosa Barragán, a candidate in Moroleon shot dead at a rally last May.
The governor of the entity, Diego Sinhue, reported that in addition to the arrest warrant for the murder of the candidate, they are accused of their alleged participation in the multihomicide in a bar in Moroleon, on August 6.
Alma Denisse Sánchez Barragán, daughter of the candidate and mayor-elect in the municipality, said her brother “fully recognizes” the men arrested.
Movimiento Ciudadano selected Sánchez Barragán as its emergency candidate, replacing her mother; she won a victory with 48.5% of the vote, more than double that of the PAN candidate, Grecia Pantoja Álvarez.
This is the third arrest for the murder of Barragán, after the capture of Fernando ‘N’, he was apprehended in the municipality of Yuriria, on June 1.
The last electoral process left 102 politicians murdered, of whom 36 were candidates and candidates for various positions, according to the consulting firm Etellekt.
Of the total, 87 were men (29 were aspirants and candidates) and 15 women (7 aspirants).
The 2021 election became the second-most murdered since 2000, behind only the 2018 election.
On the other hand, the political parties to which the candidates and candidates for mayor who were murdered or kidnapped during the electoral process that has just ended belonged, only won in 5 of the 14 elections in which the victims of these attacks competed.
