translated from Spanish: Fifteen conventional RN, Evopoli and independents send letter to representatives of native peoples recognizing historical debt

Through a letter, fifteen members of the RN, Evopoli and independents expressed their willingness to work together with their elected counterparts in seats reserved for native peoples in order to resolve the country’s “historic” debt in this area. In the letter, the signing members maintained that “We recognize that, whether as a State, as a society or as individuals, mistakes and injustices have been committed, one of them being the little understanding we have had of the realities and perspectives of the native peoples.” In addition, in the text they stated that “Chile has a historical debt and we are committed to contributing to its solution (…) we are aware that many times we have not been able to understand the gaze of the native peoples or take charge of the lessons that history has left us. Today, we have an exceptional opportunity to change this reality with facts.” We know that there is a lot of mistrust and ignorance about the dreams and values that inspire everyone. Therefore, those of us who signed this letter express our firm commitment to dialogue and seek, with a high level of vision, agreements to start a new stage,” the convention added. The letter was signed by Hernán Larraín and Geoconda Navarrete de Evopoli, Cristián Monckeberg, Roberto Vega, Harry Jurgensen, Luciano Silva, Álvaro Jofre, Paulina Veloso, Ruggero Cozzi and Patricia Labra of RN and by the independents-Evopoli Bárbara Rebolledo and Bernardo de la Maza, and the independents-RN Angélica Tepper and Manuel José Ossandón.
