US authorities on Monday handed over drug trafficker Eduardo Ramon Arellano Felix to Mexico, where he was arrested for organized crime, criminal association and crimes against health.
Nine years after being extradited to the United States, the leader of the Tijuana Cartel was handed over to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) and the Army at the Matamoros Brownsville International Bridge.
Eduardo Ramón Arellano Félix, also known as the Doctor, was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2013, but after his cooperation with US authorities he was convicted of only two of the seven charges brought in that country.

“After serving that part of his sentence in a low-security federal prison in Allentown, Pennsylvania, U.S. immigration authorities (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) made him available to Mexican authorities,” the FGR said in a statement.
According to the Special Prosecutor’s Office on Organized Crime (FEMDO), he will be brought before a federal judge at the Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation No. 1 in Altiplano, in the State of Mexico.
Eduardo is the younger brother of Alberto Benjamín Arellano Félix (also extradited to the United States on April 29, 2011) and served as his constant companion and advisor. He was involved in the management of the organization’s finances, as well as all the most important decisions of the organization, such as the coordination of large shipments of cocaine, kidnapping and murder of enemies of the Arellano Felix Cartel.
