The former councilor of La Calera and relative of the senator and president of RN, Francisco Chahuán, Karim Chahuán was convicted by the Oral Criminal Court of Quillota, for his participation in a robbery in the Open Plaza mall on October 29, 2019, in full social explosion.
Magistrate Mónica Oliva notified that he will only be convicted of theft in an uninhabited place, and not for the other crimes in which he was being investigated, such as obstruction of the investigation, influence peddling, drug trafficking in small quantities, malicious use of a public instrument and accomplice to drug trafficking.
Chahuán had been in pretrial detention since December 4, 2019, when investigations began into the case where three other people were also investigated for their connection to the crime. The TOP of Quillota also modified the precautionary measure of Chahuán, changing the preventive detention for the monthly signature and national roots.
These other three people were also notified this day: Leonardo Gómez Méndez was acquitted as the author of the crime of simple theft of species, while Christopher Guzmán Lobos and John Villalobos Zamora were also acquitted as perpetrators of unjustified shots.
However, like Chahuán, they were also convicted of other crimes. Gómez, Guzmán and Villalobos, were convicted as perpetrators of the consummated crime of robbery with intimidation, on March 27, 2019. In addition, Gómez was convicted of robbery with violence and for illicit drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and illegal possession of ammunition. Finally, Villalobos was convicted of trafficking in small quantities of cocaine base, possession of prohibited firearms and their ammunition.
The reading of the sentence was set for next Wednesday, September 15, at 2 p.m.
