A total of 25 groups of cancer patients issued a public statement on the case of the conventional Rodrigo Rojas Vade, who acknowledged not suffering from cancer. In the statement, the organizations called for rojas’ “exclusion” from the constituent body.
“In Chile every year about 58,000 cases of cancer are diagnosed and about 28,000 people die due to the disease. Those of us who have suffered from cancer or are relatives of a patient know the enormous economic and emotional cost that this entails,” they said in the statement.
“Those of us who have been fighting for years so that all patients have a timely diagnosis and adequate treatment, regardless of their economic situation, have raffled and completed to pay for our own medical expenses or help others do so. Along the way we have lost very dear people, on whose behalf we also move forward,” they added.
“That is why the assembly carried out by Rodrigo Rojas Vade deeply violates us. Disguising himself as a cancer patient to obtain economic gains and generate citizen adhesion with a cause that is alien to him and earned him to be elected in the Constituent Convention, seems to us an insult and a scam, “they emphasized.
In that line, they described as “regrettable” the arguments and “justifications that members of the Constituent Convention have put forward in favor of Rojas Vade.”
“This blatant deception is not a simple lie, it is something meticulously planned by someone who lacks scruples and whose ‘apologies’ we do not accept,” they snapped.
“We consider that their participation in the body in charge of drafting the new constitution generates damage to the process that is being developed, which we support and in which we believe. For us, Rojas Vade is a person who tried against the public faith and, by virtue of that, we believe that he should be excluded from the Constituent Convention,” the groups concluded in their statement.
