Larreta, on Co-participation: “We are discussing which country we want”

After the strong crossings at the end of last year, the dispute between the National Government and that of the City of Buenos Aires over the investment of Co-participation escalated towards the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and the first hearing was held in which a deadline for an agreement was set. In this sense, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta presented himself as a defender of the right-wing received in 2016 and pointed not only to the blow to the Buenos Aires economy, but also to the dependence on the state and the model of country that the Frente de Todos intends, with Alberto Fernández at the head.
In this sense, he announced that he is willing to negotiate but stressed that he will seek to defend the interests of the City of Buenos Aires. Thus, in a press conference, he was forceful in his explanation with strong criticisms of the national state and the ways in which this meeting was carried out in Justice.” We participated in a conciliation hearing with the national government for the demand we filed in response to the arbitrary, untimely, unconsulted and unconstitutional removal of resources,” he began and stressed that the funds are “necessary to sustain the Police, infrastructure and investment in technology.”
“We attended the hearing convened by the CSJ and presented to the judges all the arguments that support our claim. The removal is unconstitutional because it violates the express requirement that says that the transfer of a competence from the Nation to another district must be accompanied by the necessary funds,” he added. The government advanced in this removal without dialogue, from one day to the next and to resolve a crisis in another province. The City stopped receiving 15,500 million in 2020, 83,000 million in 2021 and by 2022 are estimated 120,000 million reduction. It is necessary for all governors to defend our districts from discretionary attempts,” Larreta said.
In this sense, he pointed out that the dispute is moving towards the model and that it is “discussing respect for our Constitution and the federal form of government.” “We are discussing whether the provinces are autonomous or subject to the will of the national government. Deep down, we are discussing what country we want to be.” We have full confidence in the work of the Supreme Court, which ensures that the division of powers in our republic remains in place and with full effect. The Court set aside 30 days for us to reach an agreement with the national government. As I always did, I will be willing to sit down at the table to reach an agreement, betting on the good faith of all parties,” the president concluded.
