Universidad del Pacífico faces lawsuit for more than 60 billion pesos

This was established after the rectification in the amounts of the lawsuit filed by the lawyer Daniela Awad on December 3 before the 25th Civil Court of Santiago, representing the total number of young people. The case in question, according to the lawyer, “began on December 7, 2018 with the seizure of the students occurred as a result of the delay in the payments of fees to the professors that resulted in the cessation of the provision of services by several teachers, which detonated in the non-facilitation of the delivery of the documents so that the students could opt for the change of university, due to the closure of it.” At that time, the lawsuit represented 378 students for a total of $ 56,700,000,000, to which 34 more university students adhered, adding today a total of 412 students, which brings the amount to $ 61,800,000,000. ” Our lawsuit is filed to seek compensation for the damages caused to the most harmed, leaving them with their careers half or lost completely, causing them -in addition- serious psychological damages. This, because the breach of the benefits of the contract not only led to their being harmed monetarily, but also in terms of the scope of their personal and psychological life, which constitute very serious facts, “explains the lawyer. At the same time, Awad adds, “in May of this year, I filed a complaint against the owners of the university Pablo Ortúzar and Julio Ortúzar, and against the legal representative of Stándar SpA Juan Carlos Olcay – who acquired the property of the headquarters of Las Condes – for bankruptcy crimes, a criminal investigation that is ongoing and in the hands of the prosecutor José Ignacio Reyes.” Now, in civil matters, it is expected that once the defendants have been notified, they will respond to the facts attributed to them so that the court can then summon a conciliation hearing, and in case of not reaching an agreement between the parties, advance to the development of the trial. While in criminal proceedings, the case is in full investigation and in case the prosecutor’s office considers that the facts that support the complaint constitute a crime, the case is formalized and the corresponding precautionary measures are issued.” We hope that justice will be done to the victims, who saw their dreams cut short by being helpless because they could not continue their studies as they would have wished,” said Daniela Awad.
