The City of Buenos Aires adds breathalyzer controls for new year

This Friday, the Government of the City of Buenos Aires reported that it will reinforce the breathalyzer controls in strategic places during the night of Nuevo.La strategy, which will be with a “funnel” system to channel the vehicular flow by taking several lanes of the avenues to verify the largest number of drivers possible, was used on Christmas Eve and Christmas and allowed to increase the operations from 1,795 in 2020 to 2,822 this year.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Buenos Aires stressed that “from 2016 to 2021 the number of controls carried out grew by more than 163%”, going from 119,772 annual controls in 2016 to 314,684 until December 15, 2021. Of these, 5,343 tested positive. The highest figure so far is from 2018, when 302,186 checks were carried out throughout the year. Based on this statistic, the Secretariat concluded that the positives remain stable throughout the City around 1.7% and that the average dosage in positive breathalyzer controls in 2021 is 0.88 g / l of alcohol in the blood. Breathalyzer positives are still led by men with 84.6% and the three most common drugs detected in drug controls remain in 2020 and 2021: cocaine, marijuana and combined.
