María Elisa Quinteros said that the main mission is “to bring the process of the Convention closer to the people”

A day after assuming as president of the Constitutional Convention, María Elisa Quinteros explained how she came to obtain the support to lead the body. “My name comes from other spaces, not from my collective. This process bets on what we want this second period to be: with dialogue and conversation,” he said in ADN, adding that “we do not have the logic of traditional politics, however we respect the agreements that arise from that world.” On the work they will do in this second stage, Quinteros insisted that the presidency “has nothing to do with what rights are approved or not, but in how we facilitate political deliberation so that the 2/3 are agreed.” After assuming the testera on Wednesday, the epidemiologist assured that they will integrate the experiences of the leadership of Elisa Loncón and Jaime Bassa. However, the professional explained that they hope to provide more information about the process to the citizens. “We have to recognize that what was done in the first stage was very alien to the people, because it was based more on the regulatory and the technical,” he said, so now it is proposed as the main mission “to bring the process of the Convention closer to the people within the country.” On the other hand, the new president was consulted about an eventual rapprochement with President Sebastián Piñera in the remaining months of his government. In this regard, he pointed out that “it is a conversation that we have to expand, it is not a personal decision that I must make, but it needs a broad consensus.”
