Health reports 13% increase in COVID cases; detects 17 thousand infections

The Ministry of Health reported a 13% increase in COVID cases between the first two weeks of the year.
According to the daily technical report, the agency detected 17,938 recent cases, for a cumulative of 4,685,767 infections, since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, authorities estimate that 294 thousand 29 (5.9%) are the active cases of COVID due to presenting symptoms in recent days.

They also confirmed 118 more deaths, so there are at least 303,301 officially recognized deaths.
As for vaccination, the secretariat reported the application of 240,832 more doses, for a total of 160,816,753.

The doses correspond to 83 million 329 thousand 994 vaccinated people 89% of the adult population in Mexico.
