New guidelines for demonstration plates established in CDMX

The Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) issued new guidelines for the registration process of the demonstration plates, which are used by assemblers or automotive agencies to move new vehicles or for test drives.
The agency together with the Ministry of Finance created a simplified system for the issuance of this type of plates, with control measures “for the benefit of the security of citizens.”
To register the demonstration plates, the interested moral persons will have to submit an application before the Semovi, in which they must demonstrate their legal personality, the need to have these plates, what is their purpose and what amount they want.

In the tuition fees the following shall be taken into account:

For automotive agencies: the number of sales per agency; in that sense, they may request up to 30 sets of plates.

For companies whose activity is the manufacture or assembly of vehicles: the number of commercial events they carry out and they will be allowed to request up to 10 sets of plates.

Through a statement, the Semovi warned that legal entities will only be able to use the demonstrator plates in a schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., seven days a week.
On the first day of February, Semovi published the new guidelines in the Official Gazette of Mexico City, with which all the demonstrator plates issued previously lose their validity within six months from such issuance.
In addition, higher safety standards were incorporated for the identification of apocryphal demonstrator plates.
The new guidelines were issued in order to regulate the correct and safe use of the demonstrator plates, as well as to establish measures for the proper use of the vehicles that circulate in the capital.
“The demonstrator plates were previously issued without the existence of an adequate registration system, nor security and control measures of the same. This generated safety problems for road users.”
