Ukraine to send additional police contingents to conflict zone

The National Police of Ukraine announced today that it will send additional forces to the conflict zone in the east of the country in order to ensure public order, while the call for reservists between 18 and 60 years old began on Wednesday throughout the country.
“Police units are part of the joint forces involved in operations in eastern Ukraine (…). The decision has been made to increase them with additional units,” said the number two of the National Police, Oleksandr Fatsevich.
He said additional police contingents will be sent before the end of this week.
Fatsevich said the officers’ mission is to preserve public order, while the National Guard and members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces carry out the tasks of dealing with Russian aggression.
“We have taken the decision to strengthen the police presence to guarantee public order and secure the rear,” he insisted.
For its part, the command of the Army announced on Facebook that today began to call reservists aged between 18 and 60 years, after the order given last night in this regard by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The recruitment period is for a maximum of one year and in the first stage is aimed at those who served in special units and signed service contracts in the operational reserve.
“According to Ukrainian law, reservists retain their jobs and their average monthly salary,” the statement said.
The non-presentation of reservists constitutes an offence that is punishable administratively or criminally, depending on the circumstances of each case.
