Alfonso De Urresti: “I have expressed my support for the fifth withdrawal if there is no robust government package” in economic solvency

Senator Alfonso De Urresti announced that he will present his candidacy to become the next president of the Socialist Party and also announced his positions regarding the controversy of Minister Siches and the future discussion of the Fifth Pension Retirement.
In a dialogue with La Tercera, De Urresti said that if he is elected as the new socialist helmsman, “we will collaborate so that the program is carried out. I share what the President himself said, we have to move towards a coalition government to have a team as strong as possible to get the tasks out in a Congress where we do not have a majority.”
On the other hand, he reaffirmed his support for the Minister of the Interior, Izkia Siches, who has suffered the political repercussions of her statements about the flight of foreigners that was returned in the previous administration.
In that sense, the senator said that “we were the first party that made an iron and clear support to the Minister of the Interior, preventing a hunt from being generated by the opposition,” he added.
Meanwhile, when asked if he will square with the government for the rejection of an eventual Fifth Retirement, the parliamentarian argued: “I have expressed my support for the fifth withdrawal if there is no robust government package.”
In the same way, he was asked about the position of the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, who has warned of the economic consequences that a new withdrawal of 10% in the previsonal funds would entail.
On that point, De Urresti indicated that “I value very much the work that Minister Marcel is doing, but it is also his obligation to seek the necessary public policies to contain inflation and to transfer resources to people who are complicated today.”
“With previous withdrawals, more than $700 million was paid in alimony. That is clearly a tremendous wake-up call, to understand that not only is there a serious economic crisis, but there is also a serious crisis of compliance with obligations as basic as food pensions for children in our country. We have to work hard to have those complements, otherwise the fifth withdrawal will be a reality,” he said.
