Minister Toro proposes a more active role of National Assets so that fiscal assets “are at the service of the urgent needs of the country”

The Minister of National Assets, Javiera Toro, and the Undersecretary of the Portfolio, Marilen Cabrera, attended the Committee on Housing, Urban Development and National Assets of the Chamber of Deputies to present the priorities of the distribution and address some of the doubts of the parliamentarians, related to the competences of the Ministry.
On the occasion, the Secretary of State emphasized that among the objectives of her management in National Assets is to put the role of the ministry at the service of the urgent challenges of the country.
“We hope to move from a ministry that has had a rather passive role and that responds to the requests of private companies and other institutions, to a ministry that has a more active role to promote a policy of use and administration of fiscal assets that is at the service of the different social, cultural and economic needs of the country,” the minister stressed.
Minister Toro pointed out that among the main measures she intends to promote is to reduce the housing and urban deficit through the redistribution of land for housing and the city. He also stressed the need to advance in land restitution and autonomy for Indigenous Peoples; and, finally, the provision of assets and heritage for the promotion and recognition of human rights and historical memory.
“We have the intention and commitment to advance the issues we point out here, but we know that this is only possible with important inter-ministerial work. The Ministry of National Assets is related to most of the ministries, but it has functioned more as a window for requests than with an active management, and we are promoting that important work with all the ministries, “added the head of National Assets.
Regarding the housing emergency, the Secretary of State said that “we believe that the whole country has to face this situation as the crisis that it is and make itself available to solve it, in particular the State agencies. And there, we talk especially about the case of the different branches of the Armed Forces and Order and Security, because today they are part of the State agencies that have land in urban areas, well located, with connectivity, which although they are of the State, are not under the administration of National Assets, “said Minister Toro.
Caleta Laws
The Undersecretary of National Assets, Marilen Cabrera, addressed legislative matters, especially those related to coves, which are fundamental in economic and social aspects, and inter-ministerial coordination in the matter.
“The laws of coves I and II, allow us to clean up the spaces where there are identified coves, which means complete spaces, both economic and housing and also small poles of development. All this in coordination with the Undersecretaries of Housing and Fisheries,” he said.
“We found that we had no regulations for the caletas II law of 2017, which allows us to expropriate land. Now we are working precisely to speed up this issue and thus be able to begin to regularize something in which we are committed, “added the authority.
