Conventional Cubillos proposed to discuss the duration of Gabriel Boric’s presidential term

The conventional for District 11, Marcela Cubillos, proposed to the Political System Commission, to debate the duration of the mandate of the current President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, before the changes that will be part of the draft of the new Constitution.
During the session held on Tuesday, the former Minister of Education, argued her point alluding to the fact that it changes “substantially” its attributions.
“It seems to me that it would be necessary to incorporate into the Executive Branch, the duration of the current presidential term and the authorities of the Executive Branch, because it also changes substantially, the Presidency changes substantially in its attributions with respect to what it has today,” he said.
“The cabinet changes, the ministers change, not only the issue of incorporating the ministers of indigenous peoples, but they completely change the attributions of the President of the Republic, it changes the entire system,” he emphasized. “I think that the transitoriness, the duration of the mandate of the current President and the authorities of the Executive Branch should also be under discussion,” he added.
This position is completely contrary to that published by Cubillos herself in November of last year through Twitter, where she assured that “the Convention must give security to citizens that deputies and senators who have just been elected and the President who will elect on the 19th will not be changed the period for which they were elected, regardless of the definition taken on the government regime”.
One of the actors opposed to Cubillos’ position is the conventional Cristián Monckeberg, who declared that “the transitory rules have to give stability and they have to give time for them to be implemented. Changing things overnight is going to be a real nightmare for whoever is governing.”
“I believe that the mandaros must be respected and that means that this period ends. If the current President wants to be re-elected, I think it would be reckless,” he said.
