Deputy Raúl Soto for possible new withdrawal from the AFP: “I think it is politically and legally unfeasible”

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto (PPD) said that a possible new withdrawal of the AFP is “politically and legally unfeasible”, adding that he asked the Secretariat of the Corporation for a report on the matter.
In conversation with El Mostrador in La Clave, Deputy Soto explained that from the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies they asked the Secretariat for a legal report regarding the projects of the withdrawals, filed in the Constitution Commission.

“We are waiting for an expert in law that we commissioned the Secretariat for that report to send it to the Constitution Commission, which is where these initiatives are based, to effectively see what the decision of the legal point of view is,” said the PPD legislator.
“I think it is politically and legally unfeasible to continue on that path,” the president of the Lower House emphasized about the projects of a new withdrawal of pension savings.
Asked when the required report will be available to the Secretariat, he hopes it will be available “during this week.”
Criticism of Jackson’s work
The deputy also criticized the work of the minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency (Segpres), Giorgio Jackson. “I think what there is is the absence of the government in Congress,” he said.
“Sometimes it gives the impression that Minister Jackson is more concerned about the future of the Convention than about what is happening in Congress, and obviously that is worrying because he is the person in charge of the relationship between the Executive and Congress,” he said.
Even so, he said that “we are seeing much more presence” of the ministers, such as the head of the Interior, Izkia Siches, or the Minister of Labor, Jeannette Jara. “Yesterday we had a lunch with the Minister of Labor,” he said.
“We will be fully prepared to try to contribute to the articulation of these majorities, but certainly the first responsibility lies with the government,” he said.
“We are against time, I believe that we must start now with the pre-legislative work, not only with the benches that are part of the government coalitions, where there are already difficulties and differences (…) with the number of parliamentarians who are the political base of the government, they do not reach the votes to build majorities,” he continued.
“We must go to talk with the Christian Democracy, we must go to talk with the PDG, and we will have to cross the path on many occasions to try to achieve transversal agreements,” he added.
Absence from the Political Committee
Likewise, the helmsman of the Lower House referred to the absence of the president of the PDP, Natalia Piergentili, in the Expanded Political Committee on Monday.
“There have been errors of communication, of coordination on the part of the Executive. Little connection with the caucuses in general and with the PDP caucus in particular,” Soto said.
“It’s a wake-up call to the government,” he said. “I hope it is not only a wake-up call or a political fact, but above all an opportunity to rebuild trust,” he added.
