The mayor of the municipality of Tlalnepantla, Morelos, Angel Estrada Rubio, was attacked with firearms on Friday, the state government said in a press release.
After the attack this morning, the official was taken to a hospital, where he is stable, according to authorities.
In its statement, the Morelos government reported that the attack against Estrada Rubio happened in the San Pedro neighborhood of the municipality.

The assault was reported at 9:27 a.m. at the Coordination, Command, Control, Communications and Computing Center (C5).
According to state authorities, an operation has already been deployed to find the aggressors and the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) is investigating the facts.
“(The authorities) categorically affirm that this regrettable and cowardly act will not go unpunished, since they will not give in, nor will they take a step back in the fight against crime in order for Morelos to be a safe and harmonious entity,” they said.

In Tlalnepantla, a small municipality, Estrada Rubio heads the local administration for the period 2022-2024.
The aggression against him occurs in a context of growing violence in the state, which in the first four months of the year totaled 370 intentional homicides and 17 femicides, according to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
