Prosecutor’s Office rules out that the murder of Luis Ramírez was for being a journalist

The Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office ruled out that the murder of journalist Luis Enrique Ramírez, which occurred in May, was due to his work as a communicator.
Sara Bruna Quiñónez, head of the institution, said Monday that the motive for the crime is already established and that those responsible have already been identified, although for now, she said, it is not convenient for the investigations to give more details.
“(We are) ruling out that the deprivation of his life had to do with his activity as a journalist, with other reasons why he deprived himself of his liberty first and of his life later. The motive of the event, the chronology and the modality of the crowded have been established, as well as the identity of those responsible, “said the official.

Quiñónez said that the authorities are committed to clarifying the crime and that justice is done. To do this, he argued, one must act “neatly” in each legal step.
The murder of Luis Enrique Ramírez, whose body was found in the streets of Culiacán on May 5, caused outrage in the journalistic guild.
It even motivated demonstrations in Mexico City, where communicators demanded an end to the violence, security conditions to work and justice in the murders of comrades.

Press freedom organizations warn that a common conduct among authorities is to minimize these crimes and reject that they are related to the journalistic work of the victims. With this, they seek to subtract public attention.
From 2000 to date, more than 150 journalists have been killed in Mexico, according to a tally by the organization Article 19.
