Security Forces Deploy in Nuevo San Juan, Michoacan

An operation with dozens of elements of state and federal forces was deployed on Monday with the aim of recovering the security of Nuevo San Juan, the municipal capital of Parangarícutiro, a town that was in the hands of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
The caravan of elements of the state Secretariat of Public Security, the State Attorney General’s Office, the Army and the National Guard spread early to that community, stranded in the avocado area of the state.
As the deployment approached the main entrance of Nuevo San Juan, armed men supported by some villagers set fire to a van and a taxi, to try to hinder the advance of the authorities.

After a few minutes, the different corporations entered the municipal capital and took control of security, even with surveillance from the air.
Videos released by some residents also show that at least twenty vehicles were shot at the exit to Tancítaro.

Other cells at the service of the CJNG, whose leadership is attributed to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, ‘el Mencho’, stole more private and commercial units and set them on fire in four different points of the surrounding municipality of Uruapan.
Authorities reported burning vehicles in the La Mora and San Rafael neighborhoods, as well as Quirindavara and Cheranguerán, in Uruapan, where the CJNG also operates.
Later, police elements were attacked by armed people in the municipal capital of Uruapan.
The officers responded to the attack and, after a chase, managed to arrest three of the assailants, also involved in the theft and burning of vehicles.
Michoacan Governor Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla declined to elaborate, but confirmed the operation in Nuevo San Juan. He said the results would be released later.
