María Elisa Quinteros and invitation of former presidents to the closing ceremony of the CC: “At no time has there been a veto or negative intention”

The president of the Constitutional Convention, María Elisa Quinteros, addressed the decision taken by the table of the constituent body regarding whether or not to invite the former presidents of the country to the closing ceremony of the process on July 4.
This decision was taken by the members of the board of directors with 6 votes in favor and 3 against. This, after the criticism that the CC received as a result of the decision to leave out the former presidents for reasons of capacity.
“We deliberated, each one expressed their opinion, we voted and it was achieved by a majority to be able to extend the invitation to the former presidents, recognizing of course always the dignity of the position they occupy,” Quinteros said.
In that sense, he said that “at no time has there been a veto, to be very clear with that. On Friday, we did not evaluate this issue, but focused only on the invitation to authorities in office, always thinking about the continuity of the powers of the State. But we are also reflective, we listen to our colleagues and now we have discussed and the invitation will be extended to the former presidents.”
“We regret having exposed our former presidents to this question. As I said, at no time has there been a veto or any negative intention, we only defined criteria and applied those criteria, which was for authorities in office. And now reevaluating and we are going to extend the invitation,” he added.
In the same vein, Quinteros was asked why she decided to vote against inviting the former heads of state.
“I represent a collective, I have a political position that is legitimate, and with my collective we have resolved that we remained in the initial position, which has to do with the capacity and the invitation of authorities in office, as the colleagues of constituent social movements said in the past plenary,” he said.

“Of course we reiterate the invitation to everyone to attend to safeguard order, that the atmosphere is cordial, pleasant, because it is a very solemn act, which closes a process that we have carried out with a lot of effort and sacrifice,” he concluded.
