Like Ricardo Lagos: Former President Eduardo Frei confirmed that he will not attend the closing ceremony of the Constituent Convention

With the confirmed absence of Ricardo Lagos to the closing activity of the Constituent Convention, now joined that of former President who served during the years 1994 to 2000, Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle. The former senator announced his decision in a brief writing.
“Dear ones, while I appreciate your invitation to the Plenary Session of the Constitutional Convention on July 4, on this occasion I will not participate,” former President Frei said in a short letter sent to the board of directors led by President María Elisa Quinteros and Vice President Gaspar Domínguez.

For his part, former President Ricardo Lagos had previously commented that “given the existing difficulties before the capacity that must be respected, I would ask you not to consider my name at the Ceremony of presentation of the text of the New Constitution”
It should be remembered that the invitation to the former presidents generated controversy in the Convention, since in the first instance it was indicated that the presence of the former heads of state was in doubt due to a capacity issue due to Covid-19. But finally, it was decided to invite the former presidents in a divided vote of the constituents.
