The first reports indicate that the blockades began in the early morning and it was until 9:00 a.m. when elements of Municipal Traffic and the State Police managed to clear the roads.
Matamoros is the center of operations of the historical cell of the CDG, which has established itself as the third largest criminal enterprise in Mexico in the last 3 years, according to a report by the United States Congress.

The blockades in the state are not new, in March of this year, Nuevo Laredo lived a violent early morning due to clashes between groups of armed men who left trucks on fire in the streets and exit roads of the city.

According to the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), between the night of March 13 and the early morning of March 14, members of criminal groups carried out 38 armed attacks and 13 blockades in different parts of the city.
The agency reported at a press conference that there were no injuries or deaths as a result of the attacks and that the procedures of the Defense Plan were applied, such as constant patrolling in the city and around military bases.
