Reyes Méndez Jiménez, former director of the Security Secretariat of Irapuato, was killed outside his home on Sunday, June 26.
According to the Municipality’s Security Secretariat, the events occurred in the Villas San Ángel subdivision, when the former official was leaving his home.
Through a statement, the authorities reported that Reyes Méndez resigned from his position on May 21; arguing personal matters.
“This is J. Reyes Méndez who since May 21 ceased to belong to the corporation, after requesting his separation from office, for personal reasons.”
So far, no arrests have been reported.

The former official took office on May 10 replacing Rubén Omar Jaramillo Mariscal, who was dismissed for abuse of authority; however, Reyes Méndez left office 11 days later.
During the passage of Reyes Méndez through the institution, his chief of escorts was attacked by armed subjects. The incident occurred outside the home of the chief escort.
According to authorities, the policeman remains hospitalized.
