Migration crisis: President Boric announces investment of $ 2,300 million and points out that “we want an orderly migration”

President Gabriel Boric announced, in the framework of his visit to the region of Arica and Parinacota, an investment of $2.3 billion to develop a biometric registration plan at the border and pointed out that regional migration services with greater powers will be strengthened.
“We want a migration that occurs in an orderly, safe way, that we know who is entering and that we recover control over the borders that were unfortunately lost in recent years,” said the President from the Chacalluta border complex.
“These processes (border control) are not achieved overnight, we have to do it with a human rights perspective. Many times they are families in a situation of despair, but we will not allow crime to sneak through these loopholes,” the head of state added.
“We know that migration is part of our history and that as a society we will always defend inclusion, human rights, cultural and labor exchange, which we know has given important returns,” he said.
He also emphasized that “this situation in the north of Chile cannot be solved alone, we require cooperation at the regional level and I think a great example of this is the opening of this border crossing, which was achieved through constant coordination with Peru.”
