Barbosa demands Nieto reveal who asked him to investigate Ignacio Mier

The governor of Puebla, Miguel Barbosa, demanded that the former head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), Santiago Nieto, reveal who asked him to start an investigation against the federal deputy of Morena, Ignacio Mier Velazco
He claimed that neither he nor the government of Puebla asked for it; He pointed out that Nieto presented the investigation at a meeting at the National Palace where public security issues were addressed and there were dependencies such as Sedena, Federal Public Security, Navy, Prosecutor’s Office, Legal Counsel and The Interior.
“Santiago Nieto can say why he initiated the investigation, at the request of whom? The person who asked for the investigation, Santiago Nieto can say who, right? I ask Santiago Nieto to say who asked him to start the investigation. The government didn’t go, I didn’t go,” he said.

A year ago, in July 2021, Nieto — who then headed the FIU — filed a criminal complaint against Mier, his partner Arturo Rueda and others for possible money laundering.
That file again attracted public attention this week and, in response, Mier, leader of the Morena caucus in the Chamber of Deputies, announced on Monday that he denounced before the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) Governor Miguel Barbosa, Puebla Senator Alejandro Armenta, Prosecutor Gilberto Higuera and Nieto himself for alleged crimes committed by public servants. revelation of secrecy and influence peddling.
This morning, at a press conference, Barbosa said that two authorities have the information about the investigation, the FIU with Santiago Nieto and the Attorney General’s Office, when the Unit sent him the complaint. “Nothing is leaked here, in the FIU I don’t know,” he said.

He affirmed that it is a “smokescreen” that they want to deploy so that things are not seen as they are, and accused that Ignacio Mier is a partner and operator of a newspaper that was “dedicated to leaks for life.”
“They were the kings of the leak, in which Ignacio Mier was involved in several facts of information leakage,” he said.
Barbosa also asked Morena’s national leader, Mario Delgado, to review where and with whom He is testifying Mier.
