30 illegal dumps detected in Naucalpan

The Municipality of Naucalpan has identified 30 illegal dumps in which trucks unload construction materials and gravel. In different cases, the dumps represent millionaire businesses for those who operate them; they use firearms to protect them. The problem is registered in San Mateo Nopala, Los Cedros, Las Ánimas, but, mainly, in Santiago Tepatlaxco and in San Francisco Chimalpa. One of them is located in a ravine of Ejido El Castillo, in the area of Chimalpa, where the managers have found a business. Gustavo Regino, president of the Council of Citizen Participation of San Francisco Chimalpa, explained that approximately 150 trucks arrive at that shot every day to unload waste from construction or industrial material. For each unit, managers charge from 350 to 400 pesos. The fee depends on the type of debris they want to deposit. In that same area, at the height of the Naucalpan-Toluca highway, inhabitants quantified at least three garbage dumps of this type that are in operation.” Economically, it’s what makes this shot attractive, they charge per dump truck.” In Chimalpa, it has an eye of water that supplies the population, so if we let those shots continue, there is contamination of the aquifers, devastation of the forests and risk to the population, “said Gustavo in an interview. On Wednesday, residents of those neighborhoods met with the Mayor of Naucalpan, Angélica Moya. One of the agreements they reached is that authorities will address the problem, in addition to neighbors expressing their concern about the environmental damage generated by the garbage dumps. They denounced that the mountains of gravel and garbage that form, have collapsed with the rains and the debris falls on houses. On Wednesday, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office, the local Environmental Protection Attorney’s Office, with the support of the Municipality, closed two illegal dumps in the area. In the operation, 19 people were arrested, as alleged perpetrators of crimes against the environment and resistance.” They are usually armed, the shots, the people, there are usually weapons, let’s say, that’s why you enter with the public force. We invite you to read: “Yes it is a big business of millions of pesos, it should be noted that there is a confinement of final disposal of construction materials in Naucalpan and they prefer to go to throw them to these areas, to pay much less than going to the site of final destinations,” Amaya Bernárdez, director of Environment of Naucalpan, said in an interview.
