The increase in the fare of motor transport and rail services was arranged after remaining more than three years without modifications, and within the framework of the Government’s objective of reducing the weight of subsidies in the fiscal result. Transport subsidies are the most significant after energy subsidies and in the first half of the year represented an expenditure of $152,271.3 million, with a year-on-year increase of 85.4%, according to the latest report of the Argentine Association of Budget and Public Financial Administration (ASAP). In the recitals of the resolution, Transport warned that after the last tariff adjustments to the different services of public transport automotive and rail passengers, “the union entities of the aforementioned sectors, have managed to agree on various agreements of wage recomposition”. Likewise, there have been increases in the prices of inputs and services, including diesel, the psychophysical examination to obtain the enabling licenses, the price of rolling stock, as well as new costs related to the measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said, adding that these variations “have not had a recognition in the rates of the public services involved.”
