Helmsman of the PC assures that wink of former president Lagos on the plebiscite “is a sign that things are going more towards the Approve than the Rejection”

The helmsman of the Communist Party (PC), Guillermo Teillier, addressed the latest statements of former President Ricardo Lagos, who insisted that the constitutional debate will continue after the plebiscite of September 4, although he made a nod to the Apruebo. “We have a big advantage,” the former president said.
For Teillier, this is a sign that things “go more toward Approval than Rejection.”

At the end of a meeting with President Gabriel Boric, the president of the PC said that the most recent clarification of Lagos “is perhaps a sign that the Approve is reaching the Rejection, so to speak, because the Rejection until now seemed to be going in a winning trend, far, and we have the impression that at this point it is no longer.”
The communist leader emphasized: “What President Lagos has said is a sign that things are going more towards Approval than Rejection.”
Asked about the possibility of joining the draft initiated by communities of the Broad Front to reform the proposed constitution after the exit plebiscite, Teillier pointed out that “they have not said anything to us.” But anyway the helmsman of the PC commented that “our position is that we are open to discuss, but maybe in the way we have some qualms.”
“It seems to us that it is not good to attribute popular sovereignty in this case,” he said.
“Why if there has been a process that has been imposed by the people in which there was an entry plebiscite, a convention was elected, there will be a plebiscite, a group of parliamentarians, political parties will attribute the representation of that people?” the former deputy questioned.
Guillermo Teillier reiterated, however, that “we do not refuse to discuss, it is good to discuss the issue, but how it is expressed is where we have certain doubts.”

“We see that we can start discussing that and lose the extraordinary effort we are making to win with the Apruebo. We are deploying ourselves in that and we believe that this is the main thing and clarify the issues of the new constitution, all the positive things that it has, especially the social aspects,” said the communist leader.
With satisfaction they evaluate from the Communist Party the work of the government of President Gabriel Boric, despite the challenges that the world economic situation has represented and that has had an impact on Chile with significant inflation. This was part of what the members of the political commission of the collectivity analyzed together with President Gabriel Boric in a meeting in La Moneda, where they also evaluated the work for the fulfillment of the program that they presented during the campaign.
