The AFA will remodel a stadium to be the new “home of the National Team”

Due to its great deterioration in recent years, the José María Minella stadium lost a lot of prominence, so much so that the historic summer tournaments are no longer played. Faced with this situation, the AFA will promote its remodeling to turn it into the new “home of the national team”. In this sense, as reported by TN, the president of the AFA, Claudio Chiqui Tapia, agreed in a meeting with the mayor of Marplatense Guillermo Montenegro that the AFA will take charge of the stadium for the next 30 years: which implies carrying out the necessary works to put it in value. ” We are very happy because this would mean that the national teams, of all their categories, both male and female, come to play in the city of Mar del Plata. It is very good for our city because not only will it allow you to enjoy the matches, but each game will generate a lot of movement and work for the people of Marplate,” Montenegro said in a dialogue with the newspaper La Capital.

Currently, the José María Minella stadium is deteriorated in its stands, so much so that the roofed stalls were closed due to the poor state of the roof and the lighting towers, with a lot of rust. For his part, Tapia added: “Mar del Plata continues to be a representative square of our football. It was historically. A few weekends ago we took the Futsal Gold Cup and we were very satisfied with how they treated us. For the AFA it is an honor that their teams go to the city.” Faced with this situation, the government of the province of Buenos Aires confirmed that it will take charge of the technical report that determines the necessary infrastructure works. In these works, the area of covered stalls, the lighting towers, a new bus entrance area would be built and a new playing field would be offered. The stadium was built to be sub-venue for the 78 World Cup, and also hosted major international events, such as the Pan American Games, the U-20 World Cup, the 1996 Pre-Olympic Games or the 2001 Youth World Cup. Its capacity is 35,500 spectators and it is used to play the home matches of Club Atlético Aldosivi and Club Atlético Alvarado.
