Government and balance of the plebiscite: high participation highlights and that “our institutions are working”

Just two hours after the closing of the tables in the exit plebiscite that will define whether or not Chile will have a new Constitution, the Minister spokeswoman of the Government, Camila Vallejo, delivered a positive balance of the election day.
“Not only because of the high participation of citizens, but also because our institutions are working, both the Servel, the polling places, we want to thank all those who are contributing,” he said.
In that line, Vallejo highlighted “all the efforts we have made in terms of transportation,” underlining “our minister and undersecretary making a newsletter, reporting the flow status of our means of transport.”
“We have both in the Metropolitan region and in regions, with regulated transport, a 70% increase in the flow of public transport, an effort that has been prepared in advance and that is having good results in the day.”
As for the Metro, he stressed that “it is also having a 6% increase in flow compared to the last important day of participation, in the second presidential round.”
On the other hand, the Secretary of State stressed that on a day like today -70 years ago-, women voted for the first time in history in the country.
“Before we did not have that right and today we can proudly say that not only women can vote, but also women have been part of a process in an equal way to be able to draft and propose to the country a new Constitution,” he said.
Excuses for not voting
Throughout this election day there have been long lines to attend to excuse themselves in the police stations, so Vallejo recalled that “the only excuse that is required today to attend the police station is that they are more than 200 km away from their polling place, no other.”
“So to avoid long lines, insist that only that is required before the police station. Then those who are under the other three possible excuses do not require assistance and justification before the police stations today. They will be summoned and summoned through the local police courts when that is determined,” he said.

Results of the plebiscite
The Minister of the Segegob affirmed that as a Government they are prepared for September 5 “to continue calling for participation, convening all actors in a transversal way so that we can improve the living conditions of our citizens who expect important transformations to improve their quality of life; both in health, pensions, in how we fight the climate crisis and above all how we continue this process, whatever the result.”
In the event that the new Constitution is not approved, Vallejo said that they will work on “enabling the other constituent process as the President of the Republic has indicated.” Meanwhile, if the Approval is imposed, he said that “we have an expert council for the implementation and observation of the implementation process.”
Regarding the last point, he commented on the role that Congress will have. “We require laws, reforms, etc. The application and compliance with the transitory articles, because the whole process of transit from one Constitution to another requires a graduality and where Parliament will play an important role,” he said.
