AMLO leads flag raising to commemorate September 19

Federal authorities and Mexico City commemorated on Monday the anniversary of the earthquakes that in 1985 and 2017 shook the capital and other entities of the country.
These incidents were remembered with a flag raising in the Zócalo of the capital, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, among other authorities.
The ceremony was held at 7:15 a.m. and, shortly after, López Obrador held his daily press conference, in which authorities also talked about the national drill scheduled for noon on Monday and gave information about the impact of the earthquakes in the country.

During the meeting, Laura Velázquez, national coordinator of Civil Protection, reported that it is estimated that the earthquakes that occurred in the country from 1985 to 2021 caused the death of 6,551 people, affected 16.8 million people and had a cost of 356 billion pesos.

These impacts, the official said, highlight the importance of all of Mexico being prepared in terms of civil protection, for which coordination between the three levels of government is promoted.

At noon today, the national drill will be held. The seismic alert will sound, which will include the message that it is an exercise.
