Jewish Community in Chile after diplomatic impasse with Israeli ambassador: “We are going to reinforce the work and thus be able to move forward and turn the page”

A group of representatives of the Jewish Community of Chile (CJCH) arrived at the La Moneda Palace to hold a meeting with the Minister of the Segpres, Ana Lya Uriarte, after the controversy with the Israeli ambassador, Gil Artzyeli.
The impasse occurred after the diplomatic representative arrived – after being summoned – to La Moneda to deliver his diplomatic credentials to President Gabriel Boric. However, according to his own account, he was not allowed to enter the enclosure.
The reasons were given for the death of a 17-year-old Palestinian boy during an operation by the Israeli armed forces.
After the situation, Artzyeli was summoned by the Foreign Ministry to explain what happened, apologizing for the fact. Days later, the government reported that the delivery of credentials was postponed to September 30.
Given this, the head of the Segpres summoned members of the Jewish Community of Chile to talk about the situation. The Minister of Sports, Alexandra Benado, the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ximena Fuentes and the Undersecretary of Segpres, Macarena Lobos, also participated in the event.
Once the meeting was over, the president of the Jewish Community of Chile, Gerardo Gorodischer, said that “they received us in a very good way, there was a frank conversation where we had the opportunity to express our concerns and feel; it hasn’t been easy for the community.”
“We believe that it has been an opportunity in which we have talked and we are entering a new stage to continue building, to work for Chile. There were heartfelt apologies,” he added.

“We are going to reinforce the work and thus be able to move forward and turn the page with the work on a daily basis; today talking with the ministers, I think you can work a lot,” he concluded.
