Residential project seeks to contribute to the ecosystem with innovative sustainable landscaping project

In response to the current needs around the management of natural resources to mitigate the global climate crisis, the residential project, which is committed to enhancing energy efficiency and developing sustainable gardens, began to be launched in the Alta Vista condominium in Puerto Montt.
The initiative is executed by María José Velasco and Natacha Ponce, designer and landscaper, respectively, of Estudio Pradera, a company specialized in landscape planning.
“This idea ensures maintaining the ecosystems of the sector, with elements that together provide benefits to the community, because it is a contribution in the regulation of the climate, the mitigation of air pollution, the prevention of erosion and waterlogging, in addition to granting safe spaces for recreation,” they explain.
With this as a basis, the initiative incorporates native species acclimatized to the region that thanks to the automated irrigation system that it brings, seek to better express the flowering and its various textures.
All this in a vegetable palette that stands out by being able to find in it ferns, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees such as notro, fir, fuinque, ulmo, ñirre and hazel.
“The work was conducted with a spirit of recovering part of what was there and not modifying everything, so the species that were in the place and that were not successful, either because of the depth of the earth, poor maintenance or because of the transit of people, were relocated to places where they will not have those problems,” Velasco points out.
As for water consumption, this proposal integrates a separate irrigation system in circuits and an autonomous programmer in each of them, which regulates the amount of water and time that each sector needs so that there is a really effective irrigation, optimizing the consumption of 30 to 90% compared to traditional mechanisms.
“So, depending on whether it’s summer or winter season, everything is programmed so that only the amount of water is provided.
Necessary. Nothing more, nothing less,” he adds.
An opinion shared by José Miguel Montecinos, technical and development manager of Inmobiliaria Altas Cumbres, which develops the initiative.

“One of the biggest advantages of this project is that we can offer the green areas that people want to have in their environment, but with much lower cost of maintenance and water consumption, which finally also translates into an additional benefit in the common expenses of the communities,” he says.
A further example of the contribution of this initiative to the environment is that in this “replacement is no longer necessary, which is one of the most important things of a landscaping that is sustainable and permanent over time. In addition, as the spaces for lawns were reduced, the use of water and the permeability work on the ground are also minimized, leaving nature to act, “says Natacha Ponce.
It should be noted that this initiative will begin to be implemented from 2022 in all new residential developments of the real estate.
