Entre Ríos needs more than 100 millimeters of rain to neutralize its drought situation

The Entre Ríos Cereal Exchange warned today that rainfall of more than 100 millimeters would be needed to neutralize the effects of the thermal stress caused by the drought, so that crops can improve. The floor of the rainfall demand to recompose the humidity profile is at 100 millimeters but as the forecasts do not foresee good rains, it will be very difficult to get out of the drought, “said the cereal entity. In addition, the different agronomic solutions to change the situation “are not proving efficient,” the stock exchange confirmed today, so the dry profile of the soil “is consolidated throughout the territory of Entre Rios.” These climatic conditions affect the development of crops generating smaller plants, delays in nitrogen fertilization, a delay in growth, and even in specific sites partial and total losses of lots were detected. Likewise, the drought was described as the worst in the last 60 years according to provincial records, and caused “devastating” ecological and economic effects. Although there are areas and lots with a better availability of moisture, a “serious scenario” is registered for December, with a delay in planting and strong consequences on the crops of the coarse harvest of the 2022/23 campaign. For Entre Ríos, a normal value of accumulated rainfall between June and November is located at 430 millimeters, But in that period of 2022, only 240 millimeters were registered, 44% less (190 millimeters). The worst situation is recorded in the south of Entre Ríos, where more than 70% of summer crops are found and the water deficit reaches up to 81% less than the normal average.
