Only five states account for 42% of homicides in 2022

Only five of the 32 entities of the country concentrate 42% of the intentional homicides that were registered between January and November of this year, which amounted to 28 thousand 469, according to the most recent report of criminal incidence of the Executive Secretariat of the National System of Public Security (SESNSP).
The states in question are Baja California, Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Jalisco and Michoacán, which alone accumulated 12,075 crimes of this type.
Guanajuato tops the ranking of intentional homicides in absolute terms. In the period from January to November, the state governed by PAN member Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo added 2,984 murders.

In recent years, the entity of the Bajío region has registered an increase in violence, which has been reflected in clashes between the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and massacres in bars or other businesses.
Baja California is in second place in this area, with 2,498 intentional homicides. The border state, governed by Marina del Pilar Ávila, of Morena, last August experienced a violent day in which there were blockades and burned vehicles.

The entity in third place is the State of Mexico, with 2,385 intentional homicides. Of all the entities in the country, it is the most populous – with more than 17 million inhabitants – and in June 2023 it will have elections to define the person who succeeds Alfredo del Mazo in the governorship.
Michoacán, in the west, is in fourth position on the list with 2,271 murders. Throughout 2022, in the state governed by Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, of Morena, there were numerous massacres and also discoveries of clandestine graves, despite the arrival of more federal forces to try to contain insecurity.

Finally, the ranking is closed by Jalisco with one thousand 937 murders. The entity that governs Enrique Alfaro, of MC, has problems of violence derived from the operation of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which has gained strength and fights for control of territories in neighboring states such as Guanajuato and Michoacán.
Just this Tuesday, the Army announced that federal authorities arrested Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, brother of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, ‘el Mencho’, considered the main leader of that cartel, in the Jalisco municipality of Tlajomulco.
