Foreign Ministry confirmed that Chile has been asking for international help for forest fires

As a result of the forest fires that have affected the south-central area of our country in recent days, Foreign Minister (s) José Miguel Ahumada confirmed that the Government has continued to manage international aid, all this after Spanish and Mexican units have landed in Chile to join the fight against the incident.
In this regard, Ahumada said that “we are coordinating the aid of different countries in the case, for example, of Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, financial support from the United States” adding that the objective is “that this aid arrives as expeditiously as possible.”
It is important to mention that on Saturday the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá, confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested international support, particularly from ships and brigades. “Contact has been made with several governments to reinforce efforts previously made with companies that provide services,” the authority said on that occasion.
It should be noted that yesterday the first international aid arrived in our country by air. This is the contingent of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) of Spain, a group that is made up of 50 people: six advisors from the UME Headquarters, experts in the fight against forest fires; 38 soldiers from the Emergency Intervention Battalion; and a drone team with six pilots from the Transmission Battalion.
Likewise, countries such as Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Peru have collaborated with brigades, helicopters, airplanes, forestry equipment, firefighters specialized in fighting forest fires, among others.
