This Friday will be known the conviction for the murderers of Lucio Dupuy

Next Friday at noon The Oral Court of Santa Rosa will announce the penalty that will correspond to Magdalena Espósito Valenti and her partner, Abigail Páez, found guilty of the aggravated homicide of Lucio Dupuy, which occurred in November 2021 in La Pampa.La reading of the sentence could be broadcast publicly through the audiovisual channels of the Pampas Judicial Power. Espósito Valenti, biological mother of the child killed at age five, and Páez, were declared responsible for Lucio’s death under the figure of “aggravated homicide and sexual abuse.” According to this classification, both could only be sentenced to life imprisonment. However, on Monday a “censorship hearing” was held, a legal instance that establishes the Procedural Code of La Pampa once the guilt of the accused is declared. In it, the parties request the amount of the penalty to be applied to them. Without the presence of the defendants but of their official defenders and the rest of the parties – representatives of the minor, prosecution and complaint – the expectations and requests for the sentences were presented. The lawyer of the complaint, Mario Aguerrido, claimed the sentence of life imprisonment plus the accessory of “indefinite imprisonment”, an addition that restricts in the future the possibilities of accessing release benefits or early release. For her part, prosecutor Verónica Ferrero claimed the same penalty. Meanwhile, the official defenses of the accused, in charge of María Silvina Blanco Gómez and Pablo De Biasi, tacitly accepted the maximum penalty established by the Code but demanded that the court set a date for the expiration of the sentence. Although there is still a discussion about what is the maximum sentence to be served effectively for the life sentence, both defenses argued that if a temporary period is not established, the penalty could literally imply confinement until death. Meanwhile, both defendants remained during the hearing in the San Luis prison where they are housed since the events that ended the life of Lucio Dupuy.
