Lucía Pérez case: the second trial enters its final stretch

The second trial for the Lucia Perez case will enter next Thursday in its final stretch in the city of Mar del Plata. There will be carried out the allegations by the prosecution and the private prosecution that will sustain the criminal responsibility of the two accused of sexually abusing and murdering the 16-year-old girl. Then, the following week it will be the turn to argue for the defenses of Matías Farías, accused as the author of the crime of “sexual abuse with carnal access, aggravated by the supply of narcotics followed by death in ideal contest with femicide” of Lucía, and Juan Pablo Offidani, who came to this process charged as a secondary participant. This second oral debate was launched on February 7, and over eight days 29 witnesses testified, including Lucia’s parents and some friends of the teenager. At the same time, police officers who intervened in the arrest of the accused and at the moment in which Lucía arrived lifeless at the first aid room of Barrio Serena, in October 2016.For their part, experts from the Expert Advice of the Provincial Supreme Court and the Public Prosecutor’s Office who acted in the instruction also gave testimony. who agreed that Lucia’s death was due to heart failure linked to cocaine use. During the first trial, in November 2018 before TOC 1, both Farías and Offidani were sentenced to eight years in prison by judges Facundo Gómez Urso, Pablo Viñas and Aldo Carnevale, but only for selling drugs at the school gate. In that sense, they were acquitted for the rest of the charges, however, the IV room of the Court of Cassation revoked those acquittals in August 2020, ordered the “nullity” of the trial and ordered the realization of a new one.
