Racing beat Unión in Santa Fe and approaches the top of the Professional League

Racing thrashed Unión 3-1, at the 15 de Abril stadium, in the match that kicked off the eighth round of the Professional League tournament, and was two points behind San Lorenzo, leader of the contest. Center forward Maximiliano Romero, headed in the 24th minute of the first half, opened the scoring after an assist from Gabriel Hauche, who minutes earlier had replaced Colombian Johan Carbonero. In the second half, with one man less for the expulsion of Mauro Luna Diale, Union tied through the Colombian Yeison Gordillo (19m.), but the Paraguayan Matías Rojas, penalty, and the Peruvian Paolo Guerrero sentenced the victory at 30 and 49 minutes. The “Academy” threaded its second consecutive victory, fourth of its last five presentations in the tournament, and came close to the top with 14 units, double those of Union, of irregular campaign. As for the match, the “Tatengue” arranged some opportunities that he did not know how to capitalize. For its part, Racing took advantage of the first clear play it had and opened the scoring thanks to a precise header from Maximiliano Romero. The local looked for the equalizer, but the VAR intervened on two occasions. First with a goal annulled to Luna Diale, which was validated by referee Nicolás Ramírez, because it was confirmed that Jonathan Galván managed to get the ball before it crossed the line completely and – only six minutes later – the aforementioned Union striker was first admonished and then would see the red for a cunning stomp on Gabriel Rojas, leaving the homeowner with a minus. Against all odds, it was Union who entered the complement better and achieved equality thanks to a scissors from Yeison Gordillo. However, when it seemed that the game was leaning in favor of the local, Esquivel knocked down Matías Rojas in the area and the number 10 of the “Academy” was in charge of transforming the maximum penalty into a goal. Union this time had no energy for a reaction, while the visitors got the ball and imposed their rhythm in the match against an opponent increasingly worn out by playing with 10 men. When the discount elapsed, another good intervention of Hauche left Guerrero face to face with the Uruguayan goalkeeper Santiago Mele and the Peruvian solved with hierarchy to ensure the victory. On the next date, Racing will host Huracán in the Cylinder of Avellaneda, while Union will visit River in the Monumental.
