27 workers killed in a gold mine fire in Peru

The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Saturday due to a fire at a gold mine that operated legally in a remote area of the Arequipa region in southern Peru, local authorities said. According to members of the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office present at the site, the origin of the fire was a short circuit that would have caused fire in the sacaron of the La Esperanza 1 mine, in the province of Condesyos.So far it was reported that 27 miners were found dead in the place. The victims would have been buried about 100 meters deep in a straight line, according to local media in Arequipa. There are still no official reports of workers injured or trapped at the site.
