Municipal elections in Córdoba: the ruling party retained several localities and JxC celebrated two unexpected victories

In the run-up to the general elections on June 25, Cordoba elected authorities in 29 municipalities and communes of the province on Sunday. The ruling party retained power in most of the localities at stake, but the opposition achieved two surprise victories. Among the results that were registered this Sunday, in the town of Canals Edgar Bruno (Unidos por Canals) achieved re-election with 67.94% of the votes over Damián Moraes (Together for Change, 30.21%). In Coronel Moldes there was a tight victory of JxC with Ezequiel Moiso, who obtained 30.65% of the votes, surpassing the official Gustavo Argüello (Unidos por Moldes, 29.25%) and then Sergio Vizzo (MID, 26.10%) and Jesús Díaz (Democratic Party, 12.05%). The same thing happened in Las Acequias, where, with a wider margin, the opposition candidate, German Martini, won with 52.46%, compared to 44.64% obtained by the official Pablo Cavallo.In Laguna Larga the mayor Matías Torres Cena of Laguna Larga Sigue Crece was re-elected, with 55.52% of the votes, against the representative of JxC. Pablo Villalón, who accumulated 42.17%. In Cruz Alta, the current Peronist mayor, close to Kirchnerism, Agustín González (65%), who surpassed Jorge Pierobón (JxC, 35%), retained the mayorship; in Potrero de Garay there was a comfortable victory of the current communal president Gerardo Martínez (Potrero Avanza, 54%), surpassing the candidate of JxC, Melina Steffel (22%) and Silvia Suárez of the Democratic Party (18%). In Alcira Gigena the UCR retained power, with the triumph of Nancy Foresto, who with 51.05% of the votes obtained defeated María Amelia Chiófalo (Unidos por Alcira 46.44%). And in Colonia Bremen (Jackeline Ojeda), Aldea Santa María (Daniela Imola), Idiazábal (Juan Pablo Vassi), Benjamín Gould (Alain Correa), Colonia Bismarck (Leandro Vignani), Assunta (Evelyn Artusso), Las Isletillas (Claudio Boretto) and San José de las Salinas (Marcelo Ruiz), the current holders of the localities were presented as the only option and will continue to govern for one more period. This Sunday also decided representatives in Paso Viejo, Tuclame, Villa Sarmiento, Copacabana, Charras, Bulnes, Chucul, Las Vertientes, Pampayasta Sud, Punta del Agua, Capilla de Sitón, Los Mistoles, Cintra, Colonia Bismarck. The electoral calendar in Córdoba began on March 19 with the municipal elections in La Falda (Punilla department), then followed by the town of Hernando (Tercero Arriba) on March 26, in General Cabrera (Juárez Celman) on April 16 and on May 21 in Corral de Bustos Ifflinger (Marcos Juárez department). The province has 427 municipalities and communes, of which 227 will vote simultaneously with the provincial elections of June 25, and the rest on different dates until July 23.
