Justice prohibits Claudio Caniggia from leaving the country for 90 days after returning to Argentina

The National Criminal and Correctional Judge of the Federal Capital, Fabiana Palmaghini, issued her resolution that prohibits Claudio Caniggia from leaving the country for 90 days; measure that will begin to take effect once he returns to Argentina. This was expressed through the ruling published in the last hours, to which the agency had access. Telam, where the magistrate prevents the former footballer from emigrating from the national territory from the “next business day to his return to the national territory, which should occur as of July 8, 2023 as affirmed on the date by one of his defenders” and “without express authorization from this judicial headquarters”. According to Judge Palmaghini, Caniggia’s judicial situation “has been aggravated since yesterday” when she prosecuted him for a complaint of aggravated sexual abuse made by his ex-wife Mariana Nannis, in 2020 on a fact – which according to the ruling – corresponds to May 6, 2018 “between dawn and the early hours of the morning, inside the building located at Petrona Eyle Street 450, department 221, of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, called ‘Residencias del Hotel Faena'”. “In this context, any misconduct must be counteracted to guarantee the ends of the process,” said the magistrate, who in turn noted that Caniggia traveled abroad twice, once to Italy and once to Spain on June 17, and “in none of them did he previously inform the court.” In 2020, before the Office of Domestic Violence of the Supreme Court of Justice, the mother of Kevin Axel, Alex and Charlotte Caniggia, reported that the former soccer player tried to have sex with her and upon her refusal, threatened to kill her. After that, “he gave her fist blows in the face that did not impact her, since she covered herself with her hands, until finally he hit her in the arms and in the aforementioned hands according to the story and then exercised the abuse,” reports the judicial ruling.
