With the government of Bedola, extortion is prosecuted ex officio: SSP

Morelos, Michoacán.- The State Government and the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) reiterate their commitment and responsibility to ensure the safety of Michoacanos, working permanently in the follow-up of the crime of extortion, they reported in a statement.
With the entry into force of the reform to the Criminal Code to combat extortion in Michoacán, its prosecution includes crimes by electronic means or new technologies, and obliges public servants to immediately report the probable existence of this crime.
Also, threatening to publish intimate images or videos of a sexual nature is one of the aggravating factors of this crime.
In addition, it is prosecuted ex officio when it is detected that the economic or productive activities of the victim are affected, that is, it does not require a complaint.
Now, extortion is equated to kidnapping, with penalties of up to 25 years in prison.
The Civil Guard, commanded by José Alfredo Ortega Reyes, and in compliance with the request of Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, works through the Undersecretariat of Specialized Investigation (SIE) in the prevention and attention to this crime with widely trained agents.
With these actions, the Government of Michoacán has managed to recover spaces of peace to guarantee the security of the population, as part of the work for the pacification of the entity.
