Inflation in CABA was 7.1% in June and accumulates 51.2% in the year

The Consumer Price Index of the City of Buenos Aires (IPCBA) increased by 7.1% in June. In this way, it accumulates in the first half of the year a rise of 51.2%, according to official figures from the General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of Buenos Aires. In this context, the Buenos Aires price index slowed down in relation to 7.6% in May, although the year-on-year trajectory rose to 118.6%. During June, the variation of the IPCBA was mainly due to the increases in the following divisions: Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, Food and non-alcoholic beverages, Restaurants and hotels, Health and Transport, which together explained 68.3% of the increase in the General Level. On the other hand, the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels sector averaged an increase of 10.2%, contributing 1.84 p.p. to the monthly variation of the IPCBA, mainly impacted by adjustments in rental values. It was followed in importance by increases in common housing expenses and residential electricity service tariffs.
On the other hand, the Food and non-alcoholic beverages category increased 5.8%, with an incidence of 1.06 p.p. in the General Level. Within the division, the main impulses came from Bread and cereals (8.6%) and Milk, dairy products and eggs (8.4%). To a lesser extent, the increases in Meats and derivatives (2.6%) and in Sugar, pastries and desserts (11.9%) stood out.
Restaurants and hotels averaged an increase of 8.0% and affected 0.90 p.p., as a result of increases in the prices of food prepared in restaurants, bars and food houses and, to a lesser extent, in the rates of the hotel accommodation service for tourist reasons.
The Health category increased 6.7%, with an incidence of 0.55 p.p., due to increases in prepaid medicine fees and in the values of medicines. Finally, Transport registered an increase of 5.3% and affected 0.53 p.p., due to increases in the prices of cars and fuels and lubricants for household vehicles.
